Improving the Working Conditions of Domestic Workers in Brazil
Domestic workers often work in unsafe conditions, lack formality/access to social protections, and may lack the skills or information necessary to improve their work conditions or seek alternative employment opportunities. The goal of this project is to identify policy responses to improve the opportunity set and/or job quality of domestic workers in Bahia, Brazil. The literature shows that vocational training in Brazil increased female employment opportunities. We’ll assess the possibility of replicating similar training to increase alternative opportunities for domestic workers, and to increase earnings potential in their current work. Other potential interventions could fill information gaps, and facilitate cash transfers.
