Scaling Every Child Counts in India
Every Child Counts leverages innate non-symbolic mathematical skills to build foundational formal math abilities in young children through four carefully designed games targeting number recognition, approximation, and spatial reasoning. Rigorously evaluated through three randomized controlled trials (2013–2019) in Delhi, the program demonstrated that combining non-symbolic and symbolic elements improves both innate and formal math outcomes, and validated scalability in government classrooms. Supported by IGI and implemented across multiple states and NGO partnerships, including pilots in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, the program has adapted to diverse contexts through iterative process evaluations and extensive stakeholder engagement. By 2027, Every Child Counts aims to reach 25,000 schools and 1.5 million students across Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka, with plans to expand further through NGO training and state government collaboration.
