Shruti Gupta
Research & Training Manager, J-PAL South Asia
Shruti Gupta is a Research and Training Manager at J-PAL South Asia where she works on initiatives to build a stronger, locally grounded ecosystem in economics and public policy.
Through deep institutional partnerships, her work focuses on strengthening women’s participation and leadership within India’s development agenda.
Prior to joining J-PAL in 2026, she worked as a Consultant with the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), where she led the research, monitoring, and evaluation (M&E) for a gender-transformative leadership program for women healthcare professionals across Tier 2 and 3 Indian cities. During her previous tenure in the training vertical at J-PAL South Asia, she conducted M&E capacity building through workshops, lectures, and advisories.
Shruti has led diverse gender-focused research projects for varied organizations, including studies on: the impacts of decarbonization of informal women workers (Good Business Lab), the experiences of informal women workers during the COVID-19 pandemic (ICRW), and gendered dynamics of gig work (Aapti Institute and Microsoft Research India) amongst others.
Shruti holds a PhD from the National University of Singapore, where her doctoral research examined the international migration of Indian women. Her research and writings have been published in peer-reviewed journals and academic book chapters.
